What is a smart card?

The smart card, literally translated as "intelligent card" is a PVC on a credit card dimensions (85x55x0, 82mm) that has an integrated chip within. The chip may have a memorisation capacity and data elaboration ability. Smart cards are used for many applications: for telephone charges, for accesses control, for fidelity circuits, for digital signature applications, etc.
